Netherlands East Indies 1859 cent

Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71820

This specimen was lot 71820 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Kingdom of the Netherlands. Cent, 1859. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William III. NGC MS-63 Brown. A pleasing and consistent bright hazel color with immaculately preserved fields and satiny luster." This type was struck in large quantities 1855-60 and accompanied a half cent and 2½ cent. A very similar coin (KM 307.2) was struck for queen Wilhelmina 1896-1912.
