Schulman sale 375, lot 1078

This specimen was lot 1078 in Schulman sale 375 (Amsterdam, April 2023), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,701 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NEDERLANDS-INDISCH GOUVERNEMENT 1816–1949, WILLEM III 1849–1890, ¼ Gulden. 1858. mmt. zwaard. Gekroond rijkswapen tussen waardeaanduiding, daaronder jaartal. Kz. waardeaanduiding in het Maleis en Javaans. RR. Met gepolijste stempels geslagen. Proof/FDC. (Netherlands East Indies, 1816-49, William III, 1849-90, quarter gulden of 1858, mintmark sword. Obverse: crowned arms divides the value, date below; reverse: value in Malay and Javanese.)"

This type was struck 1854-57 and 1882-85 and this date is common.

Recorded mintage: 4,800,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 3.18 g, 0.720 fine silver, 18.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
