Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 49060

This specimen was lot 49060 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Dutch East India Company. Zeeland. 10 Stuivers (1/2 Gulden), 1791. PCGS AU-50." Silver half gulden were issued 1786-91 for the East India Company by Westfriesland, Zeeland (shown here), Utrecht and Gelderland. Zeeland stuck this in 1791 only, either with the date on the shield side (KM 156) or on the maid side (KM 157). We don't see the date at all on this example. The East India Company was in an advanced state of decay and was abolished in 1799 during the French dominated Batavian Republic.
