This specimen was lot 35955 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "United East India Company copper Specimen Duit 1791 SP63 Brown PCGS, VOC issue. Boldly struck and bordering on rare in Specimen grade." Copper duits were struck in large numbers for the Dutch East Indies, source of most of the Netherlands' wealth in the late eighteenth century. For 1791, there were issues from Holland (KM 70), Westfriesland (KM 131), Utrecht (KM 111.1), Zeeland (KM 152.3) and Gelderland (KM 50.2, shown here).
