Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72447

This specimen was lot 72447 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. United East India Company. Duit, 1727. Middleburg Mint. PCGS EF-45. Some minor roughness and mottling to the color, but nevertheless presenting little in the way of actual handling." This duit, struck with the arms of Zeeland, was issued 1726-29. The design was revised for subsequent types (KM 152.1 of 1729-35, KM 152.2 of 1736-52, KM 152.3 of 1753-92). Holland, Westfriesland, Gelderland and Utrecht also struck duits for the East Indies. Presentation strikes exist in silver and gold but not for this type.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
