Netherlands 1991 2 ducats
This specimen was lot 74234 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 2 Ducats, 1991. Beatrix. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. A handsome Superb-Gem proof, this wholesome piece delivers enticing appeal and limited instances of perturbations on the surfaces." The Netherlands was the last country to strike ducats on a regular basis. Gold ducats were struck 1972-78 and failry steadily starting in 1985. Double ducats, obsolete since the days of the Batavian Republic, were reintroduced in 1988 and struck intermittently for collectors since.
