This specimen was issued by Nepal as part of the F.A.O. series and to note International Women's Year. King Mahendra Bir Bikram died in 1971 and was succeeded by his son, Birendra Bir Bikram, who, in 2001, was murdered by his son, the Crown Prince. That scandal, plus the regime's inability to quell a Maoist insurgency, led to the abolition of the monarchy soon after. One hundred paisa = one rupee.
Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.
Specification: brass.
Catalog reference: KM 809.
