Sincona sale 47, lot 1773

This specimen was lot 1773 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 215 CHF (about US$258 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Navarra, Königreich, Henri II. 1572-1589. Teston 1577, Pau. Fast sehr schön. (France, kingdom of Navarre, Henry II, 1572-1589, teston of 1577, Pau mint. About very fine.)"

The Henry II shown here was the future Henry IV of France. In the sixteenth century, Navarre was still autonomous and struck its own coinage but Henry IV merged it with France. Most of the region ended up part of Spain.
