Navarre (1483-1512)-P blanca
This specimen was lot 1796 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,733 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ESPAGNE, NAVARRE, Jean II et Catherine (1483-1512), billon blanc (tarja), s.d., Pampelune. D/ IK sous une couronne, entre deux points. En dessous, P brochant sur le grènetis. R/ Croix cantonnée de I, K et deux couronnes. Rare. Belle patine. Rare dans cette qualité. (Spain, kingdom of Navarre, John II and Catherine, 1483-1512, undated billon blanc, Pamplona mint. Obverse: their initials under a crown between two dots, a "P" below; reverse: a cross cantonned with two coronets and an "I" and a "K". Rare, nice patina, rare in this quality, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
Catherine d'Albret (1468-1517) was queen of Navarre 1483-1512 along with her husband John. She was ousted by an Aragonese invasion sent by Ferdinand V and she finished her reign ruling Béarn, the portion north of the Pyrenees. Her great-grandson became Henry IV, king of France.
