Navarre (1441-79) gros
This specimen was lot 116 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Juan (1441-1479). Navarra. Gros. en contramarca en anverso. Pátina. Muy rara ¿Única conocida?. (kingdom of Navarre, John, 1441-79, undated silver groat, Navarre mint, countermarked on the obverse. Toned, very rare, the only one known?)"
Cayón notes that this gros or grueso or groat was issued in several varieties of obverse legend. This one reads, "JOHANNES DI GRA REX NAV Z ARAGON".
