This specimen was lot 674 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Nassau-Weilburg. 2/3 Taler, 1750. Karl August (1719-53). NGC MS-61. Highest certified. Intricate obverse design. Dark toned and sharply struck. An exceptional example of this RARE type. From the Rockaway Collection." The county of Nassau was geographically quite extensive but its coinage is scanty. This two-thirds thaler or gulden is one of two rare types issued in the eighteenth century.
