Naples and Sicily 1693 50 grana
The first specimen was lot 1050 in Aureo sale 291 (Barcelona, April 2017), where it sold for €550 (about US$706 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1693. Carlos II. Nàpols. AG/A. 1/2 ducat. Ex Colección Crusafont 27/10/2011, nº 1544. Ex Colección Ramon Muntaner 24/04/2014, nº 1040. MBC+. (kingdom of Naples and Sicily, Charles II, half ducat of 1693. Choice very fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 75327 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Naples & Sicily (Naples). 50 Grana (1/2 Ducato), 1693-IM//AG/A. Carlo V (Charles II of Spain). PCGS MS-62. An exceptionally handsome example, with gleaming luster and earthy toning accentuating the elegant Baroque portrait." This coin was denominated fifty grana or half a ducato. The SCWC lists its larger sister, the ducato, under the kingdom of Naples, then under Spanish rule. The ducato was worth one hundred grana while the piastra was 120 grana. This type is listed for 1693-94. The degenerate Charles II was the last Hapsburg king of Spain.
