Aureo sale 261, lot 265

This specimen was lot 265 in Auero sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it sold for €60 (about US$96 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1684. Carlos II. Nápoles. AG/A. 1 tari. Limpiada. Rayas. (MBC). (Charles II, kingdom of Naples, one tari of 1684. Cleaned, adjustment marks, Very fine.)"

The SCWC notes that 12 carlini = six tari = one piastra, where a piastra is roughly equal to a peso. This type was struck 1682-87. Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's. This type is listed for 1684-87.
