CNG Triton XXIX, lot 1063

This specimen was lot 1063 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $3,368.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY, Napoli (Kingdom). Filippo III di Spagna. 1598-1621. AR Mezzo scudo – Cianfrone. Napoli mint. Dated 1617 IC C. Radiate and armored bust right, wearing ruff / Crowned eagle facing with wings spread, head left, holding olive branch and thunderbolt. Toned, faint hairlines, minor deposits and marks, double struck. Near VF. Rare." This appears to be a one year type. Half a scudo was fifty grana or 5/12 of a piastra.

Specification: 16.57 g, silver, 37 mm diameter, this specimen 33 mm diameter, 16.32 g, 10 h axis.
