Mysore AM1222/12 1/4 rupee
This specimen was lot 715 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AR 1/4 rupee (baqiri), Patan, AM1222 year 12, with collector's original index card with provenance and date of purchase, PCGS graded AU53, ex Anton Holt Collection." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. While Tipu struck large numbers of rupees and an extensive array of copper paise, the fractional rupees (1/32, 1/16, eighth, quarter and half) are all rare. This type was struck years 6 thru 12.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 2.68-2.90 g, silver, this specimen 2.77 g.
