Sincona sale 9, lot 3865

This specimen was lot 3865 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 2600 CHF (about US$3,288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Schlesien-Münsterberg-Öls, Herzogtum Joachim, Heinrich II., Johann und Georg, 1536-1558. Dukat 1550. Ausbeute der Grube Reichenstein. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Siliesa-Munsterberg-Oels, Henry II, John and George, 1536-58, ducat of 1550, on the beginning of joint rule, rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The duchy is located in Silesia and fell to the Hapsburgs in the seventeenth century on the extinction of the line. Frederick the Great of Prussia seized Silesia in the 1740's but it is now part of Poland.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen is 3.45 g.
