This specimen was lot 20973 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,092.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Munster. Friedrich Christian Taler 1706, AU58 NGC, handsome deep gray and gold patina with sharply struck details, very scarce commemorative marking the death of the Bishop. A pleasing coin with that old-time cabinet feel." The bishops of Munster issued thalers on occasion during the early eighteenth century but a "sede vacante" issue of 1761 (Dav-2470) is the last. All of the ecclesiastical states were mediatized by Napoleon and handed over to his allies in 1800-06.
