This specimen was lot 21 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,213 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MÜNSTER, BISTUM, Christoph Bernhard von Galen, 1650-1678. Reichstaler 1659, Münster. Coesfelder Kreuztaler. Patina, sehr schön +. (bishopric of Münster, Christopher Bernard of Galen, 1650-78, thaler of 1659, Munster mint. Toned, choice very fine.)"
All the thalers of Münster are scarce. The town and the region were thoroughly devastated by the Thirty Years War and never recovered. The bishop succeeded in establishing the Counter-Reformation there and holding the region for the Catholic Church.
