Mughal Empire AH 1070/1 rupee KM-300.11
This specimen was lot 2374 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Aurangzeb, 1658-1707, AR broad dirham, Baldah Allahabad, AH1070 year one (ahad), struck on unusually broad flan; the prefix baldat was used on Aurangzeb's coins of Allahabad dated AH1070-1072; 1 small testmark, bold VF, R." Aurangzeb succeeded Shah Jahan and, after eliminating his brothers, expanded the empire to its maximum extent. However, his intolerance of Hinduism sowed the seed for later revolts. This type was struck years 1-4 at Allahabad and is very scarce. Allahabad was renamed Prayagraj in 2018 by the Hindu nationalist government of Uttar Pradesh.
