Mughal Empire AH 1069/1 rupee KM-299.1
This specimen was lot 2371 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Aurangzeb, 1658-1707, AR rupee, Gulkanda, AH1069 year one (ahad), ruler cited only as padshah ghazi bahadur 'alamgir, lovely VF-XF." Aurangzeb succeeded Shah Jahan and, after eliminating his brothers, expanded the empire to its maximum extent. However, his intolerance of Hinduism sowed the seed for later revolts. This type was struck year 1 only but is listed as common. Golkonda, famous for diamonds, was in the Deccan between Orissa and Mysore. It was part of Hyderabad when the Nizam of that state declared independence in 1724.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
