SB825-42366r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42366 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mughal Empire. Mohur, AH 1057 Year 21 (1647/48). Patna Mint. Shah Jahan I. NGC MS-63. Rather pleasing, this Choice Mint Mohur offers good eye appeal, with sharp brilliance, and handsome appeal." Shah Jahan is most remembered today for having built the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his wife. His successors after Aurangzeb (r. 1658-1707) were not able to cope with external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war and the empire broke up in the eighteenth century. The SCWC notes this mint for years 6, 8, 11, 13, 15-17, 21 and 25.

Recorded Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10.8-11.0 g, gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-801; KM-260.14.
