Mughal Empire AH 1047/10 rupee KM-235.21
This specimen was lot 2365 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Shah Jahan I, 1628-1658, AR rupee, Pattan Deo, AH1047 year 10, bold strike, with clear mint, date, and regnal year; 3 small testmarks, VF, Scarce. Pattan Deo (also spelled Patan Deo), known as Somnath, was one of the holy Hindu sites in Saurashtra, Gujarat. Almost all known coins are dated AH1047 year 10, but a few rare examples are known from 1048/10 and 1049/10." The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. This collapse allowed European colonizers entry into the subcontinent and eventual British control.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better mint.
