Mughal Empire AH1073/5 mohur Fr-810
This specimen was lot 33708 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $2,280. The lot description[1] noted, "India: Mughal Empire. Aurangzeb Alamgir gold Mohur AH 1073 Year 5 (1670/1671) MS65 NGC. Highly pleasing for the type, with a visual character elevated by general granularity that lends a textured appearance and only adding allure to the most appreciable Gem preservation." The type was struck at over five dozen mints the length and breadth of Aurangzeb's vast empire. This one apparently comes without a mintmark. Such mohurs are noted for years 3 thru 45,including year 5 shown here. No date obtains a premium but all are expensive.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 10.8-11.0 g, gold.
