Steve Album sale 54, lot 2199

This specimen was lot 2199 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Muhammad Shah, 1719-1748, AR 1/32 rupee, Khujista Bunyad, year 13, small shroff mark on obverse, rare with legible date, VF-XF, R, ex Stephen Album Price List #272." Khujista Bunyad struck this type intermittently years 2 thru 30 and was the only mint to strike this denomination. Khujista Bunyad, also known as Aurangabad in Maharashtra state, was annexed by the emperor Aurangzeb in 1636 and held by the Mughals until 1724, when it became part of the state of Hyderabad. Its population has grown from c. 10,000 in 1901 to 1,421,000 in 2011.
