Stephen Album sale 43, lot 1948

This specimen was lot 1948 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Humayun, 1530-1556, AR shahrukhi, Badakhshan, ND, most of mint name boldly clear, very rare mint for Humayun in silver! about 30% flat strike yet still quite attractive, choice EF, RR." The shahrukhi was originally a silver coin minted by Shah Rukh of the Timurid Empire (r. 1405-47) and was adopted by the early Mughal Emperors (Babur, Humayan and Akbar). It was eventually superseded by the rupee. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with Kalima with the names of the four Khalifas and their epithet in the margin. The reverse of these coins depicts names and title of the king with mint name and date.
