This issue, minted in Lisbon 1953-74 for the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, is the last escudo for that colony. Previous issues were dated 1936, 1945 and 1950-51. The coin is common. This coin was issued at the beginning of the war for independence. The Portuguese withdrew in 1975, triggering a multifactional war that continued for decades.
Recorded mintage: 600,000, a slightly scarce date.
