Morocco AH 1340-Pa 10 mazunas
Muley Yusuf I was proclaimed sultan in AH 1330 after his brother abdicated. He oversaw a time of various conflicts, including a rebellion that resulted in occupation by French forces (and issuance of coins under the French protectorate). As with his predecessors, his identity is only alluded to on the coins, without directly stating his name. This specimen was lot 43008 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MOROCCO. 10 Mazunas, AH 1340 (1920/21). Yusef bin Hassan. Paris Mint. NGC MS-66 Red. Population 1, none finer at NGC." This type was struck AH 1330 and 1340 for Yusef at the Paris and Poissy mints.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.
