Prior to the coinage reform of 1889, Moroccan coins were either hammered or cast, and counterfeits abounded. What was lacking in local coins was made up for by the circulation of large quantities of foreign silver currency. Shown is a one falus cast copper coin. It was issued under Moulay 'Abd al-Rahman (1822-1859 AD). The seal of Solomon decorates the obverse, and the date appears on the reverse. The date is AH 1261, or 1845 AD.
