This specimen was lot 1816 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MOROCCO: Hassan II, 1961-1999, AR 100 dirhams, 1986/AH1406, Visit of Pope John Paul II; the Pope shaking hands with a local cleric, low mintage of only 2,000 pieces, struck at the British Royal Mint, PCGS graded Proof 68 DCAM, S." The pope's visit to Morocco in August 1985 was the first time any pontiff had set foot in that state. Another 100 dirhams issued in 1986 (Y-79) honored the 25th anniversary of the king's reign.
Recorded Mintage: unknown plus 2,000 proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.925 fine silver, 31.3 mm diameter, reeded edge.
