Sincona sale 97, lot 1326
county of Montfort in 1810, on its absorption into Wurttemberg

This specimen was lot 1326 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$1,015 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Montfort, Grafschaft, Hugo IV. und Johann VII. 1611-1621. Taler 1620, Erolzheim. Mit Titel Ferdinands II. Spitzes Wappen im Revers. Sehr seltene Variante. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Montfort, Hugo IV and John VII, 1611-21, Frolzheim mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Pointed arms on the reverse. Very rare variety, Very Fine.)"

Several dies were used for this issue, including Dav-7077 and -7077A. All are rare. Montfort is an extremely obscure locality on the shore of Lake Constance in Wurttemberg. We have filed it under Austria as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: silver, this specimen 28.68 g.

Catalog reference: KM 7, Derschka/Rutishauser 264c. Dav-7078.
