Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 171

This specimen was lot 171 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 1,300 € (about US$1,698 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1593. Felipe II. Milan. 1 doppia. Obv.: ·PHI·REX·HISPA·ET·C·, in exergue 1593. Rev.: ·MEDIO·LANI·D·. Some of its original luster. Very rare. MBC+ [choice very fine]." This type was struck 1578, 1582, 1586-89, 1593-95 and undated. It was a double scudo d'oro, slightly lighter than a double ducat.
