Mexico 1943 (50 pesos)
This coin was minted in Mexico City in 1943. This specimen was lot 30210 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 50 Pesos 1943 MS66 NGC, Mexico City mint. This one-year type within the 50 Pesos series has the gram weight in gold struck on both sides of the winged victory motif, instead of the denomination of 50 Pesos which is typically seen to her left. A premium example that radiates with original mint bloom, highly-coveted in this lofty grade designation." The type was struck 1921-47; this is the only date not marked "50 pesos". No date is rare but the 1931 obtains a slight premium.
