This specimen was lot 77514 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1942-M. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-66. One of eight graded finest at PCGS." This five centavos is a common date of a type struck 1936-42. It was accompanied by a very similar ten centavos (KM 432). It replaced a bronze five centavos issued 1914-35 and was in turn superseded by another bronze five centavos featuring Josefa Ortiz issued 1942-55 (KM 424). The 1938 is scarce in uncirculated, the rest are common. The obverse design is adapted from the famous Aztec sun calendar in Mexico City.

Recorded mintage: 7,100,000.

Specification: 4 g, copper-nickel, 20.5 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM-423.
