Mexico 1926-M 20 centavos
This silver twenty centavos was issued by the Mexico City mint 1920-43 after a temporary surge in the price of silver interrupted the issue of the previous type (KM 436). The "0.720" was added to the reverse to distinguish this type from earlier issues of 1905-19, which were 0.800 fine silver. The early dates (1920-21 and 1925) are fairly scarce in nice condition but the later issues are common. Many trade as bullion coins. The second specimen was lot 34399 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 20 Centavos, 1926/5-M. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-63. A certain KEY DATE in the series, this Choice example is fully lustrous and well struck. The top left corner of the '5' can clearly be seen under minimal magnification."
