Mexico 1921 50 pesos
This coin was minted in Mexico City in 1921. This specimen was lot 3432 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "1921 50 pesos. MS-64 (NGC). Striding Liberty, wreath in upheld hand, denomination, weights, dates around/eagle with snake on cactus, legend above, branches below. Highly lustrous light orange gold. A scarce grade for this date. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." The type was struck 1921-47 along with a silver two pesos. No date is rare but the 1921 obtains a slight premium.
