Mexico 1921-M peso
The first specimen was lot 22990 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $99. The catalog description[1] noted, "Estados Unidos Peso 1921/621, XF, the '9' in the date shows clearly a '6' or inverted '9' underneath. We can find no records of this occurrence." This type was struck 1920-45 for Mexico in large numbers. No dates are rare tho some dates, such as this one, are scarce in nice condition. Reductions in size and fineness in 1918 and 1920 reduced the peso to half the silver of the "Caballito" peso. The overdate reported here is not mentioned in the SCWC nor is it visible in the auction lot photo.
Recorded mintage: 5,480,000.
Specification: 16.66 g, 0.720 fine silver, .385 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 455.
