This specimen was lot 22328 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $159. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1908-MoAM. NGC MS-64." The type was struck at Mexico City 1898-1905 and 1908-09. Mint officials did not intend to revive the liberty cap peso for the 1908-09 issue but were forced to this expedient as the Caballito design was not ready. Assayer AM is slightly scarcer than assayer GV.
Recorded mintage: 7,575,000 (assayers AM and GV).
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
