This specimen was lot 31315 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 4 Escudos 1797 Mo-FM AU50 NGC, Mexico City mint. Similar to the previous in terms of luster, yet with a tad more high-point wear than the previous lot, which defines the designation. Also very scarce in this quality. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins."All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial four escudos.
