The first specimen was lot 4083 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1780-FF. Charles III (1759-88). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Sharply struck with nearly full mint luster." This specimen is one of a series minted 1773-89 in Mexico City during the reign of Charles III. Assayer FF is recorded for 1778-86. The Mexico City mint, opened in 1538, is still in operation.
