Mexico 1638/7-Mo P 4 reales
This specimen was lot 513 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 4 reales, (1)638/7(P), very rare, ex-Concepcion (1641), ex-Rudman. Very bold 38 of date with fairly clear 8/7 (first we have seen in this denomination), full cross but partial shield due to peripheral flatness, light corrosion (thin on part of edge), Fine details, lightly toned. From the Concepcion (1641) and pedigreed to the Isaac Rudman numismatic cabinet." The SCWC lists this type for 1622-65 but does not mention this date. Considerable mass has been lost to corrosion.
