Mewar (1858-1920) mohur
This specimen was lot 712 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEWAR: AV mohur, Udaipur, ND (1858-1920), Swarupshahi series, double struck, lustrous, NGC graded MS64, ex Heritage Auction 3020 Lot 24283, ex The 1914 Collection." This rare issue was accompanied by 2/3, half, quarter and eighth mohurs in gold and a rupee (KM Y11) in silver. We're a little vague as to which ruler struck these. Candidates include Swarup Singh (1842-61), Shambhu Singh (1861-74), Saijjan Singh (1874-84) or Fateh Singh (1884-1930), some of whom endured periods of regency when the British felt they were out of line.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 10.95 g, gold, 23-24 mm diameter.
