The first specimen was lot 1703 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $630. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Metz (Bishopric). Gros, ND. Thierry V of Boppart, 1365-1384. Standing bishop with crosier and blessing hand. Reverse: Long cross dividing legend. Sharply struck and toned. PCGS graded MS-61." The second specimen was lot 35422 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $690. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. Grosso, ND (1365-1384). Thierry V de Boppart. PCGS AU-55." The town of Metz was occupied by the French in the 1550's but was not annexed until the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648.
