Künker sale 352, lot 1982

This specimen was lot 1982 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,897 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"MECKLENBURG, MECKLENBURG-STRELITZ, HERZOGTUM, Adolf Friedrich III. 1708-1752. 2 Taler 1747, Stargard. GOLD. R Vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Adolf Frederick III, 1708-52, double thaler of 1747, Stargard mint. Rare, extremely fine.)"

If the SCWC is to be believed, only 83 pieces of this double thaler were struck in 1747 and the 1746 issue is equally scarce. Gold one and five thalers (KM 22, 30) also exist.

Specification: 2.66 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 2.74 g.
