This specimen was lot 73570 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. 2 Cents, 1971. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Red Gold Shield. A few light carbon spots are noted in front of the portrait of the queen. Otherwise, this vibrant Gem is seemingly flawless, and is exceeded by just one other example in the PCGS census. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck 1953-71, 1975 and 1978. It has a low catalog value and only the King's Norton mint provenance saved this specimen from being tossed into a junk box.
Recorded Mintage: 1,000,000 plus 750 proofs.
