Mansfeld 1524 thaler Dav-9473
This specimen was lot 31010 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Mansfeld. Gunther IV, Ernst II, Hoyer VI, Gebhard VII & Albrecht VII Taler 1524 MS63 NGC, Eisleben mint. Among the earliest Talers this cataloger has had the pleasure of handling, an impressive feat when considering the depth of quality and variety witnessed within the Cape Coral Collection. A joint issue from both Vorderort and Hinterort lines and keenly preserved, dripping with reflectivity and neon blue silhouettes. A star when witnessed so fine, and surely expected to engage collectors of the earliest Taler types as the sole certified representative at NGC. Ex. WAG Auction 34 (September 2006, Lot 1779). From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This early thaler (struck 1524-26 and undated) was a joint issue of all the lines. A double thaler also exists along with KM MB42 (Dav-9474).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: KM MB40, Dav-9473.
