This specimen was lot 55702 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $552. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld-Schraplau. Taler, 1590-BM. Christopher II. PCGS AU-53. From an Old Brooklyn Collection." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This type was issued 1580-91 but is scarce despite the many dates available. The line fell extinct on the death of Heinrich II in 1602.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: Dav-9525; KM MB70.
