SB622-71690r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71690 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALAYA. Imitative 2 Stuivers, "1791" (1834-36). Birmingham (Soho) Mint. NGC MS-62. Toothed border variety. An exceedingly interesting and relatively SCARCE type, these issues, imitative of Netherlands East Indies types from Holland, were produced at the Birmingham Mint in the style of older Netherlands East Indies issues and struck in German Silver. The present example is well struck and provides some satiny charm to the surfaces. An altogether strong example of a less encountered piece."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper-nickel-zinc.

Catalog reference: cf. KM 48 (for prototype); Prid-14; SS-19.
