This specimen was lot 73561 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALAWI. Shilling, 1964. London Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Gold Shield. Displaying ears of corn on the reverse, this shimmering near-Gem is tied with just two other specimens for the finest graded in the PCGS census. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Malawi obtained her independence in 1964 and used sterling coinage until 1968. Decimal coinage (100 tambala = one kwacha) was introduced in 1971 and is still in use.
