Künker sale 404, lot 2217

This specimen was lot 2217 in Künker sale 404 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,412 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DAS ERZBISTUM MAINZ. ERZBISCHOF DIETRICH I. SCHENK VON ERBACH, 1434-1459. Die Münzstätte Höchst. Goldgulden 1436, Höchst. Vierfeldiges Wappen (Mainz/Erbach) auf Langkreuz//Die Wappen von Köln/Mörs (links), Trier/Helmstadt (rechts) und Pfalz/Bayern (unten) in Kleeblattstellung, in der Mitte ein Punkt. GOLD. RR Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 106, Wien 2018, Nr. 744. Der erste datierte Goldgulden von Mainz. (Germany, archbishopric of Mainz, Dietrich I Schenk of Erbach, 1434-59, goldgulden of 1436, very rare, very fine, the first dated goldgulden of Mainz, Höchst mint. Obverse: quartered arms of Mainz and Erbach over a long cross; reverse: the arms of Cologne, Mors, Trier, Helmstadt, Palatinate and Bavaria, with a dot in the middle. This is the first dated goldgulden of Mainz. Very rare, very fine.)"

Dietrich issued two goldgulden: Fr-1624 (archbishop standing/arms in trilobe reverse) and Fr-1625 (shown here).
