Sincona sale 95, lot 4310

This specimen was lot 4310 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$381 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Stadt und Kanton, Dicken 1656, Luzern. Selten. Sehr schön. Fassungsspuren. Exemplar der Slg. Zuberbühler, Auktion SINCONA 16, Zürich, Oktober 2013, Los 5716. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, dicken of 1656, Luzern mint. Rare, Very Fine, Traces of mounting.)"

This type was struck 1623, 1647 and 1656 in many varieties. At this time, one thaler made four dicken or 90 kreuzer. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
